MC CZ-SK-HU-RO

The 4M Market Coupling (4M MC) project was launched in August 2013 to expand CZ-SK-HU Market Coupling to Romania and implement the Price Coupling of Regions (PCR) solution implemented in other coupled European regions.

The power exchanges (OTE, OKTE, HUPX and OPCOM) together with transmission system operators (CEPS, SEPS, MAVIR and Transelectrica) and with the support of the national energy regulators (ERU, ÚRSO, MEKH and ANRE) cooperated on a joint project of 4M MC with the aim to develop and implement the necessary solutions to ensure technical and procedural compatibility with the target European model. The 4M MC project was successfully launched on 19 November 2014 and created another milestone on the road to a single European electricity market. The following documents specify this project in more detail.

Due to the expansion of the already coupled market within the Czech-Slovak-Hungarian market by the Romanian market, the market participants in the Czech Republic were provided with deepening of the demand structure by new block offers of the same type as market participants in Western Europe. On 25 September 2014, OTE, a.s. organized the seminar of Market Coupling CZ-SK-HU-RO because of the forthcoming changes in the daily market. The main themes were the introduction of the 4M MC project and the introduction of new types of daily electricity market offers, including their impact on trading.

Presentations from the seminar can be found here.

The PCR initiative provides a unified EUPHEMIA algorithm and unified operational procedures for the effective determination of electricity prices and the use of cross-border transmission capacity. It forms the basis for future integration within the pan-European single electricity market. OTE a.s. is a full member of the PCR Initiative since March 2013 and is actively involved in its further development.

More information on the PCR initiative can be found here.
