2025 Guarantees of Origin: Key Trends and Growth Summary

In 2025, interest in Guarantees of Origin (GOs) increased significantly across electricity, biomethane and heat. Nuclear energy dominated issuance, accounting for 84% of all GOs, most of which were exported. Issuance from renewable sources continued to decline, yet consumption was primarily covered by renewable GOs, representing 88% of all cancellations, largely supported by growing imports.

Biomethane recorded substantial growth in all categories, including the first-ever imports via the AIB Hub. Heat GOs saw strong growth as well, issued almost exclusively from renewable sources. No transactions were recorded for hydrogen in 2025.
