Representatives of the market operator introduced on Thursday, 28 February 2019 the main findings of the study The anticipated long-term balance between electricity and gas supply and demand in the Czech Republic.
The main outcomes of the study The anticipated long-term balance between electricity and gas supply and demand in the Czech Republic were presented in presence of the representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Energy Regulatory Office, ČEPS, a. s., and NET4GAS, s.r.o., by OTE, a. s. The presentation took place at the Ministry of Industry and Trade and was focusing on analyzing the feasibility of the power system operation with regard to different shares of electricity generation from nuclear power sources in the Czech Republic.
In accordance with §20a, para. 4 point. f) of the Act no. 458/2000 Coll., (Energy Act), OTE provides annually the Report on future projected electricity and gas consumption and the method of ensuring balance between electricity and gas offer and demand. This yearly report provides detailed answers to conceptual questions from the electricity and gas sectors and aims to examine the development of these sectors within possible paths of development – all through case studies. Its outputs serve as a support and background material for updating the strategic concepts and new legislation.
In 2018 the study analysed the possibility of the power system operation with different contribution from nuclear sources on the generation mix. One of the case studies envisaged nuclear generation substitution through major development in renewable sources, the other one through gas-based electricity production.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade appreciates the long-term complexity and the quality of the processed analysis regarding the long-term balance which significantly contributes to strategic decision making in the energy sector and making energy policy of the Czech Republic.
