OTE markets: trading volumes break records
The markets operated by OTE a.s. are experiencing another very successful period after the record year 2024. In the first half of this year, almost 15.9 terawatt hours of electricity were traded on them. This is a third more than in the same period last year and so far the most in the history of the company's operations. Compared to the previous year, there was also an increase in the number of hours with a negative or zero price.
The energy market operator OTE runs several types of electricity markets – the daily market, the intraday market, and since last summer it has also introduced intraday auctions. Thanks to this wide range of tools, it allows merchants to react very effectively to price fluctuations and also to optimize their purchases according to current consumption. This is very beneficial for them, especially at a time when extreme price fluctuations are increasingly common in (not only short-term) markets.
"Interest in our products is still growing, and we can see it in the current figures. If nothing changes in the trend, we will already have a second record year in a row," says OTE Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors Igor Chemišinec. "Along with the growing volume, we also see an increasing number of hours with a negative or zero price on the daily electricity market, so that already in the first half of the year, the number of hours with a negative or zero price reaches approx. 69 percent of the entire year 2024, a similar trend is also on the intraday electricity market," he adds.
